Echoes of Betrayal
Your mind might carry visions of me, swaying near,
My scent lingering, though I’m far, still clear.
Fingers recall the firmness of legs once held tight,
Strength to resist, to fend off your might.
Your heart quickens at echoes that hint of my name,
A sparkle on your skin, a reminder of flame.
When she speaks, my laughter lingers in the air,
In dreams, you seek me, but I’m no longer there.
Sometimes punishment is simple and severe,
Living with the void, the emptiness near.
For the one you betrayed holds the key to your pain,
A reminder of loss, a relentless refrain.
What’s it like to fail in your own pursuit?
To lose at the game, the quest now moot.
To realize, in the end, nothing will be the same,
An irrevocable shift, a haunting refrain.
For those who listen between the lines.
