Look for the Moms
None of us asked for this version of the world.
But here we are.
So we teach our children how to move through it...
where safety lives,
where it doesn’t,
and who to call for when fear rises.
Mothers have always been the quiet network.
The watchers.
The ones who come running.
Look for the moms.
You don’t have to be a child to look for the moms.
We are here for you—at any age.

Look for the Moms
Written By: Elaine Degro
Today, I looked up at my eleven-year-old boy...once a 31-week miracle,
three pounds, nine ounces,
small enough to rest in the hollow of my palm.
Now he stands tall, already halfway out the door.
Today, I had to explain the new normal.
Words tasted like rust in my mouth.
Lessons no mother should ever have to teach
pressed themselves forward anyway.
I told him that if something happens...
if he’s separated, if he’s lost in a crowd...
to look for the moms.
To yell Mom.
To trust that we will hear him.
Not the men.
Not the uniforms.
The moms.
I told him to find them
because I will always come for him.
Always.
Today, I told my son
to look for the moms.
